Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely. This open-level adult class welcomes all humans — every body, every experience level, every ability. Some dancers are stepping into the studio for the very first time, while others have danced professionally. All are invited to participate at their own pace in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

  • Wear anything that allows you to move comfortably and safely. The studio has hardwood floors, so you are welcome to dance barefoot, in socks, dance shoes, or in clean sneakers. Please note that shoes with very sticky traction may place unexpected stress on your joints, so feel free to bring options and adjust during class as needed.

  • Just yourself. The studio does not have a water fountain, so brining a covered water bottle or beverage to say hydrated is encouraged.

  • Each month, we explore one class series together.

    • The warm-up sequence stays the same each week to build strength, confidence, and familiarity.

    • The final 15-20 minutes of class are devoted to learning a choreographic phrase (a sequence of movements). We layer on a bit more each week, allowing the dance to grow with you throughout the month.

This structure supports both learning and joy — while honoring your body’s capacity.

  • Yes, I offer private sessions as my schedule allows. If you’re interested, please email admin@sumrset.org and we can explore what works bests for us.

  • Tuesday evenings are dedicated to open-level contemporary dance. Contemporary is a wide-ranging form that can be rhythmic, fluid, grounded, sharp, soft, fast, and/or slow.

Because contemporary is so expansive, each month offers a different flavor. You’ll get a feel for how dancers train, while also being held in a class that centers care, safety, and accessibility for all bodies.
